Dr. James M. Cox, the chiropractic innovator of the Cox Technic, describes his innovation as a marriage of chiropractic principles and the basic tenets of osteopathy as set forth by Alan Stoddard, DO, in hisbook Osteopathic Technique. Those who have used the technique and those who’ve benefited from it have another description for it:they call Cox Technic the 21st-century solution to spinal pain.
Cox Technic makes use of (F/D) flexion-distractionand decompression to adjust and manipulate thespine, thus… increasing intervertebral disc height, which removes tension on the anular fibers and the spinal nerve and improves circulation dropping pressure within the nucleus pulposus (jelly-like center) of the intervertebral disc increasing the area of the intervertebral foramen (hole where the nerve exits) by up to 28% and essentially realigning the spine by restoring spino-vertebral joints to their proper physiological relationships of correct biomechanical motion Cox Technic flexion-distraction and decompression is a well-researched, well documented, and proven-effective technique for decompressing spinal nerves and treating low back pain. It’s a gentle, non-surgical, no-force procedure that helps the spine heal properly – and keeps it as pain free as possible. Since introducing Cox Technic in the mid-1960s, Dr. Cox has continued to refine its protocols. He has also developed The Cox Table, the perfect instrument for efficaciously delivering Cox Technic treatment.
My patients come to me for Cox Technic because they know I have been able to give them great conservative treatment results for their disc problem when other practitioners have failed. ~ Larry F. Widmer, DC, DACO Today, Cox Technic is the “gold standard” used by thousands of physicians around the world to treat low back and leg pain, neck and arm pain, and other spinal pain conditions. In chiropractic, F/D is documented effective. Researchers and clinicians conduct and publish biomechanical and clinical outcomes. Such outcomes come from private practitioners’ offices as well as federally funded, multi-disciplinary, multi-facility, randomized clinical control trials. Chiropractic’s F/D spinal manipulation protocols are documented in textbooks and journals and its clinical outcomes are published in same. Clinically, F/D achieves results on average in 12 visits and 29 days. 91% of patients find relief in less than 90 days, keeping back pain sufferers from entering the more expensive realm of chronic pain. Compared to medical conservative care, primarily physical therapy, F/D relieves radiculopathy pain superiorly. Further, F/D patients sought less care and reported less pain in the following year the study than did the PT patients.
To learn more about Cox Technic, its protocols, procedures, and benefits, contact Dr. Mark Theriault, Certified Cox Technician, and Founder/CEO of Family Chiropractic here in Denver. Dr. Theriault has been performing Cox Technic since graduating in 1993 and regularly uses this technic to achieve successful outcomes or at least help determine when a patient does need surgery.
